The Strauss Family is a British seven-part miniseries produced by Associated Television about 19th century Vienna's Strauss family: Johann I and his sons Johann II, Eduard, and Josef.

A dramatisation of two generations of the Strauss family of Vienna, whose dance music and operettas dominated much of Europe and beyond for most of the 19th century.

Through five episodes we travel through more than 30 years of success (1984-2019). From the formation of the group in their teenage years to their farewell. The whole family has its generational change. Marc Gasol, Ricky Rubio, Rudy Fernández, Sergio Llull, Víctor Claver and the Hernangómez family will tell the story of their evolution until they finally take over the baton from The Family.

The Family follows the daily lives of Terry and Margaret Wilkins, their children and their partners, as they all struggle to live together in a small flat in Reading. The series sets out to reveal to viewers the reality of family life in Britain as never shown before. “No TV family ever has dirty pots and pans,“ says Margaret in episode one, and the Wilkins demonstrate a remarkable candour in their on-camera conversations with one another.

The story is set at the beginning of the Christian era on a large terrace of Herod’s palace, during the reign of Herod Antipas. At night, on a terrace of the palace, Salome, Herod’s stepdaughter, is gazed at passionately by Narraboth, captain of the guard. Jochanaan, a prophet, is imprisoned in a cistern for having slandered Herod. He proclaims the coming of Jesus, but his message is met with incomprehension by the guards. Salome hears the prophet. She manages to convince the guards to bring Jochanaan out so she can see him. Both fascinated and frightened by his prophecies, Salome falls passionately in love with this man.Richard Strauss’s opera at the 2018 Salzburg Festival, directed by Romeo Castellucci at the Felsenreitschule. In her debut in the title role, Asmik Grigorian distinguished herself with her talents as a singer and actress.
